Bessemer leads $31m series B in Sukino’s care center push
Sukino, a Bengaluru-based provider of post-hospital healthcare, has raised US$31 million in a series B round led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Rainmatter.
The company operates 850+ beds across 11 centers in Bangalore, Kochi, and Coimbatore, offering rehabilitative care mainly for stroke patients as well as those with neurological, orthopedic, and oncology conditions.
Sukino said the new funding will support its plans to expand to 22 more centers over the next two years.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Sukino growth goals rest on untested rehab economics in a fragmented market
- India has 0.59 physiotherapists per 10,000 people, far below global norms, so hiring will be tight for Sukino as it plans 22 more centers over two years 1.
- The Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation (IFNR) cites fewer than 50 occupational therapists and fewer than 50 speech therapists, a shortfall that strains the multidisciplinary model Sukino needs for quality post-acute care 2.
- Neurorehabilitation faces uneven access, quality swings, and weak links to primary care, so maintaining consistent outcomes across new geographies in an 850+ bed network remains uncertain 2.
- Insurance often excludes neurorehab, a gap that drives out-of-pocket costs, so Sukino’s payer mix and unit economics stay murky despite 64% growth claims 2.
Post-acute growth lifts demand for HR tech in the rehab talent gap
- Edtech plus HR tech can expand graduate seats for physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy while building standard training as Sukino along with other providers add centers 2.
- Staffing marketplaces cover credentialing and shift management plus temp placement. IFNR reports a persistent shortage, so demand will outrun supply 2.
- Corporate wellness firms focused on prevention could benefit from rising employer interest in India, helped by wider insurance cover, a setup that positions them ahead of the rehab demand curve that Sukino’s expansion signals 3.
