Bentley plans September debut for first EV

Bentley, the British luxury carmaker, said it will unveil its first battery-electric vehicle in late September.

CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser told journalists in Crewe the new model will expand Bentley’s lineup rather than replace an existing car, and it will use batteries from South Korea’s LG Energy Solution.

The vehicle, internally called D-LUV, is a sub-5-meter “urban SUV.” Walliser said it is being developed to add about 100 miles of range in seven minutes and will retain Bentley’s sound and interior craftsmanship.

The launch fits Bentley’s Beyond100+ strategy, which pushed its all-electric target to 2035 from the 2030 goal in its original Beyond100 plan. Under the revised strategy, Bentley said its first fully electric model will be revealed in 2026.

South Korea is a notable market for the launch. It was Bentley’s top Asia-Pacific market in 2022, accounting for almost 40% of the region’s sales. Bentley Korea sold 393 vehicles last year, down from a record 810 in 2023.
