Belgium charges eight individuals in Huawei corruption probe
Belgian authorities have charged eight individuals in a corruption investigation involving Chinese tech company Huawei. The charges include active corruption, money laundering, and participation in a criminal organization, according to Belgian federal prosecutors.
Three of the suspects remain in custody, while five have been released, some under house arrest.
The investigation, which began in 2021, centers on alleged corruption linked to the European Parliament. In March, police carried out searches in Belgium and Portugal, leading to several arrests.
An arrest warrant reviewed by Bloomberg reveals a Huawei lobbyist is accused of offering money and gifts to European lawmakers.
Huawei and the European Parliament have not commented on the latest developments.
The company has previously stated it takes the allegations seriously and maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
