Belgium-based EV leasing firm Lizy nets $87.7m
Lizy, a Brussels-based EV leasing company, has raised €75 million (US$87.7 million) to support its European expansion.
The round includes €10 million (US$11.7 million) in equity from existing investors D’Ieteren, Alychlo, and NewAlpha Asset Management, along with €65 million (US$76 million) in debt.
Founded in 2019, Lizy focuses on leasing second-hand EVs to business customers in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. The company said 84% of its contracts in 2025 have involved EVs.
Lizy claims its model makes electric leasing cheaper for SMEs and helps extend the use of EVs.
The company is expanding in France and the Netherlands, reporting that its sales in France this year are over three times higher than in 2024.
Lizy cites lower maintenance and longer lifespans for EVs as supporting its approach to second-hand leasing.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ EV leasing faces severe profitability pressures despite rapid market growth
LIZY’s focus on second-hand electric leasing addresses a critical industry challenge that’s reshaping the European market.
EV lease prices have doubled over the past three years, primarily due to plummeting resale values that caught traditional leasing companies off guard1.
German EVs have lost 24% of their value while British EVs dropped 30% from pre-pandemic levels, creating massive losses for leasing firms that rely on predictable residual values1.
This depreciation crisis explains why traditional leasing companies charge an average of 57% more for battery electric vehicles compared to petrol models2.
LIZY’s circular model specifically targets this pain point by designing lease contracts around multiple usage cycles, spreading depreciation across several lease terms rather than absorbing massive losses after the first lease period ends.
The company’s approach becomes particularly compelling given that 84% of their 2025 contracts are for electric vehicles, positioning them to capture value that traditional leasing models are struggling to extract from the EV transition.
2️⃣ Commercial customers drive Europe’s EV adoption through leasing dominance
