Beijing has opposed the European Union’s moves to impose duties on Chinese electric vehicles with tariffs that could climb to 35.3% over five years, calling for negotiations to set a minimum price for its EVs.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce confirmed its opposition, noting that six rounds of technical consultations occurred over 14 days.

This dialogue followed a meeting in September between Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, underscoring the urgency for a resolution.

The European Union has secured support for implementing these tariffs, indicating a consensus among member states to shield the domestic automotive industry from what it views as unfair competition.
