A US$100 million round backs a state-run humanoid robotics center

• The Beijing Innovation Center of Humanoid Robotics Co. Ltd. is a state-backed hub set up to bring humanoid robots into industrial use. It is registered in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) and was built with companies that make complete robots, core components, and large robot models 1.
• The money supports products such as the Tiangong robot, described as the world’s first full-size, pure electric-drive running humanoid robot. Tests put its running speed at 12 kilometers per hour 2.
• Tiangong runs on the Huisi Kaiwu universal embodied AI platform, developed by the Beijing Innovation Center of Humanoid Robots 3. The center also opened a pilot manufacturing and validation platform that helps move humanoid robots from small-batch prototypes to larger-scale production 4.

China’s policy push targets a broader humanoid robotics network

• The investment fits into a national plan to build an early-stage innovation system for humanoid robots by 2025, based on a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology guideline 1.
• The center has released Tiangong materials such as design documents and software development interfaces (APIs). An industry report that compiled public information says hundreds of institutions have built add-ons and improvements on top of Tiangong 2.
• Beijing has added shared resources that include a national robot inspection and testing platform plus a national robot standardization technical committee. Officials have also said Beijing will soon set up a Beijing robot industry development fund 1.
• The plan seeks a national supply chain that could move faster than rivals that depend on split, company-by-company corporate research and development (R&D) work.
