Base10 Partners leads $25m series A for tech firm Slide

Slide, a company that specializes in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) solutions for Managed Service Providers (MSPs), has raised US$25 million in series A funding.

The funding round was led by Base10 Partners, with additional support from Outsiders Fund and Top Down Ventures.

This funding follows Slide’s launch in the US earlier this year.

It will be used to support platform development, operational scaling, and international expansion.

Slide has announced its entry into the Canadian market, launching a new data center to meet data residency requirements.

The company was founded by Austin McChord, former CEO of Datto, and Michael Fass, who was Datto’s General Counsel and Chief People Officer.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ The evolving BCDR market reflects critical shifts in business risk management

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery has evolved dramatically from its origins in simple fire prevention and insurance to become a cornerstone of modern business operations.

Before the digital era, disaster recovery primarily focused on physical document protection. By the 1980s-90s, it transformed into comprehensive IT systems protection as technologies became increasingly complex and integrated 1.

The financial stakes are substantial. Companies experience an average of 2.3 business interruptions annually, with average annual costs reaching $418,071 per organization 2.

FEMA statistics reveal the existential threat posed by inadequate disaster recovery: 40% of small businesses never reopen after a disaster, and 90% of those that do fail within a year if they don’t resume operations within five days 3.

These realities explain why Slide’s model of eliminating restrictive long-term contracts represents a significant shift in an industry where companies have traditionally been locked into solutions regardless of changing needs.

2️⃣ Founder experiences shape competitive strategies in technical markets

Austin McChord’s return to the MSP space with Slide demonstrates how founder experiences influence product development in technical markets.
