Bank of China joins $45b computing-power finance initiative
Bank of China said on September 12 that it joined China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and other partners in launching a computing-power finance initiative at the opening ceremony of the 2026 China Computing Power Conference.
The bank said the initiative, launched with support from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People’s Bank of China, also includes the People’s Insurance Company (Group) of China, China Orient Asset Management, and CDB Financial Leasing.
During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the group aims to provide at least 300 billion yuan (US$44.7 billion) in comprehensive financial support. It also plans to back at least 100 key intelligent computing center projects and serve more than 3,000 enterprises.
In China, intelligent computing centers generally refer to AI-focused computing hubs, and the country’s national intelligent computing capacity reached 2,185 exaflops in July.
The launch aligns with a broader state push after Beijing unveiled a national action plan for computing power infrastructure.
