Baidu-backed AI 3D game maker Seele seeks new funding

Seele Inc, a Shenzhen-based AI company, is seeking new funding at a valuation of several hundred million dollars.

The company previously raised funds in November from Baidu’s investment arm and Meitu, but the amount was not disclosed.

Founder Wang Shimu plans to launch a new AI model in July 2025 that allows users without coding skills to create and edit 3D content easily.

The platform aims to solve problems in replicating real-life interactions in virtual environments.

Wang, formerly at NetEase Cloud Music, wants to make 3D game creation as simple as posting on social media.

The new AI model is designed to enhance interactive experiences as more users join.

Seele also sees its AI technology being used beyond gaming, expanding its potential applications across industries.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ AI is democratizing game development amid strong investor confidence

Seele’s focus on enabling “3D game creation as easy as social media posting” aligns with a growing industry trend to make sophisticated game development accessible to non-coders.

This democratization wave is attracting significant capital, with AI-related gaming deals accounting for 22% of total gaming funding in a recent quarter, showing investors’ preference for AI-driven approaches over traditional game studios1.

The gaming industry as a whole has experienced remarkable growth, expanding from $152 billion in 2019 to a projected $300 billion by 2026, creating a fertile environment for AI-focused gaming startups2.

Several companies are pursuing similar technological breakthroughs, including Inworld AI, which secured $50 million for developing AI-driven character engines that enhance NPC realism through unscripted dialogue3.

The investment climate for such technology remains robust despite broader economic uncertainties, demonstrated by the 50% increase in AI gaming investments observed in Q3 20233.

2️⃣ China positioning for leadership in AI gaming innovation
