Baidu unveils AI world model to train, test robotaxis

Baidu, a Beijing-based internet and AI company, unveiled Apollo World at its AI Day event in Shenzhen.

The company said the world model supports autonomous-driving training and is already being used to test and validate Apollo Go, its robotaxi service.

Baidu said Apollo World models vehicles and pedestrians as AI agents, generates virtual sensor data, and simulates complete ride-hailing trips through virtual cities.

The company said the system is designed to evaluate how road users respond to a robotaxi’s driving decisions.

Baidu said Apollo Go operates in 28 cities and had provided more than 23 million rides as of June 2026.

Rival Waymo also described its own world model as “a new frontier for autonomous driving simulation.”
