Baidu to spin off AI chip unit Kunlunxin for HK listing
Baidu has proposed spinning off its subsidiary Kunlunxin for a separate listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Kunlunxin, based in Beijing, develops AI chips and is not wholly owned by Baidu.
A confidential listing application has been submitted to the exchange, but the timing and completion of the spin-off depend on regulatory approvals and final decisions by Baidu and Kunlunxin.
Baidu said Kunlunxin is expected to remain a subsidiary after the proposed listing.
There is no guarantee that the spin-off will proceed, or when it might take place.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Kunlunxin’s finances stay murky with a $3 billion valuation
- Kunlunxin, Baidu’s AI chip arm valued near $3 billion and planning a Hong Kong IPO 1, shares little on revenue or profit or on customers outside Baidu. Available reports link its chips to Baidu’s ERNIE models (the company’s large language model family) and AI Cloud services 2.
- Baidu forecasts chip revenue could reach about $1.1 billion, roughly renminbi (RMB) 8 billion, by 2026 2. The split tied to Kunlunxin, along with internal versus external sales, is unclear.
- Market share for Baidu AI Cloud sits near 10% in China 3. Kunlunxin needs enterprise wins beyond Baidu for an IPO case, yet evidence in filings remains thin.
Software vendors can fill gaps for Chinese AI accelerators (specialized chips for AI workloads)
- PyTorch Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) exporter and ONNX Runtime docs focus on mainstream accelerators such as NVIDIA TensorRT (an inference optimization/runtime) 45. Those sources do not make clear whether Kunlunxin has native support.
- MLOps platforms plus other vendors could sell model tuning, porting work, or inference stacks for Kunlunxin 6. This could ease gaps seen in some ONNX to TensorRT conversions.
- Cloud systems integrators (consultancies that build and migrate cloud infrastructure) offer guidance on moves from NVIDIA based setups to Kunlunxin. Baidu’s AI Cloud accelerator infrastructure subscription revenue grew 128% year over year in Q3 2025 2, which may spur work.
