Baidu plans primary Hong Kong listing conversion
Baidu said on July 16 that its board had authorized management to convert its Hong Kong listing from secondary to primary status.
The Chinese search and AI company said the change is expected to take effect this year, giving it dual primary listings in Hong Kong and on Nasdaq.
The move would shift Baidu from a secondary listing, where overseas issuers are mainly regulated in their primary market and can receive waivers from some Hong Kong rules.
It would require fuller Hong Kong Stock Exchange compliance while keeping both markets as primary venues.
Baidu said the change would improve trading liquidity, broaden its investor base, and give it more flexibility to raise capital in the two markets.
Market participants said Baidu could become eligible for Stock Connect as early as the September adjustment window if the conversion is completed and the company meets inclusion requirements.
They added that primary listing status alone would not be enough, and regulatory approval would still be required.
