Baidu is considering expanding its Apollo Go robotaxi service to Australia and Southeast Asia as it looks for new markets outside China.

The company, based in Beijing, has been in discussions with government officials in both regions.

Earlier this week, Apollo Go received 50 new trial licenses for autonomous vehicles in Dubai, allowing it to double its fleet there to around 100 cars.

Baidu has deployed more than 1,000 robotaxis in China and abroad and reached a deal with Lyft to seek entry into the UK and Germany next year, pending regulatory approval.

In several Chinese cities, some Apollo Go vehicles have achieved operational profitability on a per-vehicle basis. However, the division as a whole has yet to break even.
