Axiata Group Berhad, a Malaysian telecom and technology company, said the Global System for Mobile Communications Association, or GSMA, has appointed its group CEO and managing director, Nik Rizal Kamil, to the industry body’s board for a two-year term starting in January 2027.

Axiata said the appointment will make Nik Rizal the only Malaysian representative on the GSMA board for the 2027-2028 term.

The GSMA represents mobile operators and other companies in the digital ecosystem. Its board provides strategic direction on industry issues related to mobile connectivity.

Axiata added that its senior management also contributes to GSMA committees and working groups at board level.
