AWS sells out cloud capacity through 2027 as AI demand grows

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in a video podcast that Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing division, has largely sold out cloud capacity through 2027, with commitments extending into 2028, as AI demand outpaces supply.

Speaking with Andreessen Horowitz’s Ben Horowitz and Erik Torenberg, Jassy said AWS’s 2026 cloud capacity is already sold out.

He added that AWS is holding back some 2027 capacity for on-demand customers and services including Bedrock and Elastic Compute Cloud, or EC2.

Amazon previously said it would spend about US$220 billion in capital expenditure in 2026. Jassy said the company “could invest a lot more” and that doing so “wouldn’t be a bad use of capital.”

Other large cloud providers have also faced capacity constraints tied to rising AI demand.

Amazon will report third-quarter results on October 29.
