AWS to launch first Saudi Arabia cloud region by December
Amazon Web Services said in Riyadh that its first cloud region in Saudi Arabia remains on track for a December 2026 launch.
The launch is part of more than US$5.3 billion in planned cloud infrastructure investment first announced in March 2024, and will let customers run workloads from data centers inside the country.
The company also expanded its partnership with HUMAIN, a Saudi Public Investment Fund-owned AI company, to make up to 50 megawatts of capacity available for Saudi Arabia’s first AI Zone by 2028 using AWS Trainium chips and Nvidia AI infrastructure.
AWS said HUMAIN’s ALLAM Arabic large language model will soon be available through Amazon Bedrock. It added that the Saudi launch would expand its global infrastructure network to 40 regions.
The move comes as Saudi Arabia’s information and communications technology cross-border data transfer rules are being enforced, making in-country cloud infrastructure more relevant for organizations managing local data flows.
