AWS denies reports of 10% staff cuts in China

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has denied claims of significant layoffs in its Greater China operations. This follows local media reports that suggested a workforce reduction of about 10% through non-renewals of contracts and performance improvement plans.

AWS China called these reports “seriously inaccurate”. The company emphasized its commitment to hiring in China and providing cloud technologies to local enterprises.

Local media reports indicated that AWS was not renewing three-year contracts unless employees received the highest performance ratings.

Sources also noted a hiring freeze in non-sales roles across the region.

AWS has not provided further details regarding its performance evaluation policies or contract renewal processes in China.
