Austria’s economy minister, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, has proposed targeting Republican-led US states and tech companies in response to tariffs announced by President Donald Trump.

He believes this approach could push Trump into negotiations.

“We have to hit Republican states and we have to hit Donald Trump’s friends, the tech companies,” Hattmannsdorfer said at a press conference in Vienna on Apr. 3.

He also emphasized the need for the EU to address digital taxation and regulation as part of its countermeasures.
