Australian spacecraft power startup MP Space raises $16m
Sydney-based MP Space, an Australian startup that makes power systems for spacecraft, said it raised AU$23 million (US$16 million) in a seed round led by Blackbird.
MP Space will use the funding to expand manufacturing, broaden its product range, and hire more engineers in Australia.
Other investors included Seraphim Space, Systemiq Capital, Speedinvest, and MFV Partners. MP Space said the round marked Seraphim Space’s first investment in an Australian company.
Founded in January 2024 by former Tesla engineers Jay Manley and Sam Paterson, MP Space said its systems have been selected for missions covering more than 500 spacecraft. Its hardware is scheduled for its first orbital flight in Q4 2026.
Research has examined sovereign space access and launch capability, while government material did not identify spacecraft power systems as a distinct defense industrial priority.
