🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Presentation software remains remarkably concentrated despite massive market size
PowerPoint has maintained an extraordinary grip on the presentation market, achieving 95% market share by 2012 with 1.2 billion copies in use globally, roughly one for every seven people on Earth 12.
This dominance persists despite the software generating over $1 billion in annual revenue for Microsoft by 2003, indicating a mature and highly profitable market 1.
The concentration is particularly striking given that around 200 million copies of PowerPoint are actively used each month, suggesting consistent demand for presentation tools across organizations 2.
Aether’s entry into this space represents a direct challenge to one of the most entrenched software monopolies in business applications.
The startup’s $600,000 ARR before launch and enterprise customers across multiple continents suggest there may be genuine market appetite for alternatives, even in a space where PowerPoint has been synonymous with presentations for over three decades.
2️⃣ Historical disruption patterns show presentation workflows can be transformed
