Australian crypto exchange Coinstash raises $3.1m series A

Brisbane-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinstash has raised AU$4.7 million (US$3.08 million) in its series A funding round.

This increase brings its total funding to over AU$8 million (US$5.26 million). The funding round was led by a family office located in Brisbane.

The investment will enhance the platform’s development and expand its team. Additionally, it aims to attract 100,000 new investors in Australia.

The total capital raised by Coinstash includes AU$3.5 million (US$2.3 million) from previous funding rounds. This latest influx of capital indicates growing investor interest in platforms that serve both retail and institutional users.

Founded in 2017, Coinstash has prioritized compliance and security amid increasing regulations in Australia’s cryptocurrency sector.

Coinstash currently serves more than 48,000 users and provides access to over 1,000 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Australia’s crypto adoption rate highlights market opportunity for exchanges

Coinstash’s US$4.7 million raise comes amid significant crypto adoption in Australia, where approximately 32% of adults own or have owned cryptocurrency, representing one of the highest adoption rates globally 1.

This substantial user base explains why Coinstash has already attracted 48,000 users and facilitated over US$1.3 billion in trading volume since its 2017 founding 2.

The Australian government is responding to this growing adoption with enhanced regulatory frameworks, including planned licensing requirements for Digital Asset Platforms expected by Q3 2025 3.

These regulatory developments create a structured environment that may benefit established players like Coinstash, which has already invested heavily in compliance and maintains 1:1 asset reserves for customer funds 4.

The combination of high adoption rates and evolving regulations positions Australian exchanges at a critical juncture where compliance-focused platforms can capture significant market share.

2️⃣ Crypto fundraising reflects broader industry maturation

Coinstash’s Series A funding mirrors a global shift in crypto investment patterns from speculative trading to infrastructure building, as evidenced by the public market momentum of established exchanges.
