Australian biotech firm nets $58.3m to scale needle-free vaccine
Vaxxas, a Brisbane-based biotech company, has raised about A$90 million (US$58.3 million) in equity and debt to scale up production of its needle-free vaccine delivery technology.
The funding round included A$49.2 million (US$31.9 million) in series D equity led by SPRIM Global Investments and A$40 million (US$25.9 million) in debt facilities, with LGT Crestone and existing investors OneVentures and Brandon Capital-Hostplus also joining.
The company said it will use the funds to scale up manufacturing and move its high-density microarray patch (HD-MAP) technology closer to market readiness.
HD-MAP is designed to deliver vaccines without needles, and the funding will support future later-stage clinical trial programs.
David Hoey, Vaxxas’ founding CEO, will transition to a strategic adviser as the company searches for a new CEO.
Vaxxas’ HD-MAP vaccines are investigational and not yet approved for sale.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Needle-free vaccine delivery emerges as validated commercial opportunity with proven impact
Vaxxas’s A$90 million raise reflects growing investor confidence in needle-free vaccination technology, supported by real-world evidence of improved outcomes.
A recent study in Nigeria demonstrated that needle-free delivery systems achieved 11.2% higher coverage rates for polio vaccination compared to traditional methods, while delivering cost savings of $0.07 to $1.00 per dose administered2.
The technology also showed exceptionally high acceptance rates, with 94% of caregivers and 95% of healthcare workers preferring needle-free methods over traditional injections2.
This validation helps explain why multiple organizations are now investing heavily in the space. CEPI recently provided $3.7 million to Micron Biomedical for similar needle-free technology development3.
The combination of proven clinical benefits, cost effectiveness, and high user acceptance creates a compelling investment thesis that extends beyond Vaxxas to the broader needle-free delivery sector.
2️⃣ Strategic partnerships signal path to global vaccine market disruption
Vaxxas’s partnerships with major global health organizations demonstrate how needle-free technology companies are positioning themselves for large-scale market penetration.
