Australian AI firm Lucent raises $1.3m in oversubscribed pre-seed

Lucent has raised AU$2 million (US$1.3 million) in an oversubscribed pre-seed round from investors including Long Journey Ventures, Horizon, Browder Capital, and Weekend Fund.

The round closed within 36 hours, according to the company.

The new funding will be used to expand Lucent’s dataset offerings and acquire pilot customers, with plans to relocate the company to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Lucent, founded by Alisa Wu, is developing tools to help AI labs source training data for browser-based AI agents.

Wu previously co-founded Stella AI, which was acquired by an education company in New South Wales in 2024, and worked as a founding engineer at MagicBrief, an ad tech startup acquired by Canva.

Lucent aims to address challenges in providing behavioral datasets for AI agents that interact with web browsers.
