Australia asks Roblox for meeting after child safety complaints

Australia has requested a meeting with Roblox following reports of child grooming and exposure to harmful content on the platform, according to officials.

The government’s communications minister, Anika Wells, expressed concern over allegations that predators are using Roblox to approach children and that minors are being exposed to graphic material.

The Australian regulator, the eSafety Commissioner, announced plans to assess Roblox’s age verification measures and said it could impose fines of up to A$49.5 million (US$33 million) if the platform is found non-compliant with online child protection laws.

Roblox, a US-listed gaming platform, introduced age-based safety features in 2025 aimed at limiting chat functions for younger users.

The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
