Aum ventures leads $1.8m round for Indian space startup
Aum Ventures, an India-based deeptech venture capital firm, led a 170 million rupees (US$1.79 million) funding round in Bengaluru-based OXG Space, a startup building in-orbit computing and connectivity systems for Earth observation satellites, the investor said in a press release.
The round also included Skyroot Aerospace co-founders Pawan Kumar Chandana and Bharath Daka, as well as Cosmoserve founder Chiran Phanindra.
Founded by former Indian Space Research Organisation engineers Akash Shetty and Sanjay Gorur, OXG said the funding will support Mission Synapse, a 12-month program to demonstrate in orbit a Ka-band phased-array antenna, a deployable mesh reflector, and a deployable solar array.
OXG said its network is designed to process and relay satellite data in space before sending it to ground stations.
OXG is entering the broader in-orbit computing market. In that market, Rogue Space Systems, a US-based space technology company, is planning an orbital test platform, while the concept is also raising legal questions around data centers in space.
