AstraZeneca, Oracle partner on AI-driven clinical trials

AstraZeneca said on October 20 that it was partnering with Oracle to use AI and real-world data to identify eligible patients for clinical trials and monitor safety signals.

The first project will support hypertension research in Abu Dhabi with M42, a United Arab Emirates-based healthcare group launched by G42 and Mubadala that brings together technology, data, and healthcare delivery assets.

Oracle said its offerings include cloud tools to accelerate patient recruitment and monitor clinical studies.

Abu Dhabi has launched a biobank to support genomics and real-world evidence research and issued guidelines for using real-world data in clinical research.

The partnership will initially focus on cancer, cardiovascular, respiratory, immunology, and rare diseases. Delays in patient enrolment can extend clinical trial timelines and raise drug development costs.

AstraZeneca is aiming for more than US$80 billion in annual revenue by 2030.
