Aspire unveils international payment services in Hong Kong

Aspire has launched international payment services in Hong Kong, allowing customers to transfer funds in over 40 currencies using Wise Platform’s payment infrastructure.

Aspire, a Singapore-based finance platform for businesses, is extending its Wise-powered cross-border payments to users in Hong Kong.

The service enables transfers to markets including Singapore, the US, Australia, Japan, and Korea directly from Aspire’s interface.

The company said this integration offers faster transfers and lower transaction costs for its Hong Kong customers.

Aspire began working with Wise in Singapore in 2019.

The new feature is now available to all Aspire users in Hong Kong.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Aspire embeds Wise’s infrastructure to power cross-border payments in Hong Kong

  • Aspire holds a Money Service Operator (MSO) license in Hong Kong 1, which permits money changing and remittance services.
  • The company connects to Wise Platform’s application programming interface (API) 2, which supports 40+ currencies across 160+ countries 3.
  • This setup lets Aspire offer competitive pricing to Hong Kong customers 4. Wise Platform has no exchange rate mark-ups and full-price transparency 4.
  • As with any embedded integration (where a company builds another firm’s service into its own product), service performance for cross-border transfers is tied to Wise Platform, which powers Aspire’s Hong Kong international payments 2.

Fintechs and SaaS platforms in Hong Kong can embed similar cross-border capabilities through Wise Platform

  • Wise Platform enables banks, financial institutions, and enterprises to integrate Wise’s payment network via a single API.
  • Hong Kong-based neobanks (digital-only banks) like ZA Bank already use Wise Platform 4, which aligns with local rules and market demand.
  • Among Hong Kong SMEs, 93% see digitalization (adopting digital tools and processes) as vital for growth 5, so platforms can target demand for integrated financial services beyond basic software.
