ASML market value hits $500b after shares reach record high

ASML’s market value surpassed US$500 billion after its shares jumped to a record high in Amsterdam on January 15.

The Dutch semiconductor equipment maker rose as much as 7.6% following a strong 2026 outlook from its main customer, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.

TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, forecast capital spending could reach US$56 billion in 2026, higher than analysts expected, citing demand from the AI sector.

ASML is the only supplier of advanced lithography machines that TSMC uses to manufacture chips for companies such as Apple and Nvidia.

The company, based in Veldhoven, Netherlands, has gained 23% this year and is scheduled to report 2025 results on January 28.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

TSMC spending goes beyond ASML tools

  • Brokers see TSMC’s 2026 spend at US$50 to 52 billion, with some expecting more 1. ASML rose on that, yet lithography is one part of foundry budgets 1.
  • Most money goes to fabs and cleanrooms 23. Advanced packaging like CoWoS doubled to about 120,000 wafers a month, plus metrology and process gear 23.
  • ASML prices High-NA EUV near $380 million, while standard EUV sits around $150 million, so revenue per unit soars though shipments stay modest 45.
  • TSMC is boosting 3nm output from 160,000 to over 200,000 wafers a month 16. N2 starts on low-NA EUV, with High-NA arriving around 2027 to 2028 16.
  • Given that timeline, 2026 spend likely leans to conventional EUV and advanced packaging, not next-gen lithography 6.

Lithography supply chain under strain

  • More Arizona fabs and buildouts in Taiwan strain suppliers 15. EUV mirrors on silicon carbide, photoresists, pellicles, and metrology tools get squeezed 15.
  • EUV sources climbed from under 10W to over 350W 5. Collector reflectivity rose from about 65% to over 80%, so component makers race to keep up 5.
  • High-NA halves the exposure field, which forces precise field stitching near 0.7 nm overlay 65. That opens room for metrology vendors and advanced mask shops 65.
  • Resist makers building for 0.55 NA High-NA and tackling line-edge roughness can charge premium prices as 2nm-class ramps 53.
  • Investors plus equipment integrators should map bottlenecks in optics, lasers, and mask infrastructure to target expansion where capacity stays tight through 2028 56.
