ASML faces US scrutiny over alleged China chip shipment
Bloomberg reported on June 18 that US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told ASML, that Washington is concerned one of the company’s most advanced chipmaking machines may have reached China in breach of US-led export controls.
Lutnick raised the issue in a series of meetings with senior ASML leaders, Bloomberg said.
ASML pushed back, saying it has never shipped an extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, machine to China, nor any component, module, or equipment specially designed for one.
The issue would be more serious than ASML’s regular China business because Dutch rules already bar EUV shipments to China. Some immersion deep ultraviolet, or DUV, systems require licenses.
Dutch authorities also said in 2024 that ASML needs licenses to provide spare parts, software updates, and servicing for some restricted tools previously sold in China. Showing that support records can matter alongside shipment records.
ASML said China business should account for about 20% of its 2025 total net sales.
