ASML denies shipping advanced chip machines to China

ASML said on June 19 that it had never shipped an extreme ultraviolet lithography machine to China. The Dutch chip equipment maker added that it had not sent any component, module, or equipment designed for one.

The statement followed concerns from US officials that one of the tools may have reached China despite export controls.

The denial fits a long-running licensing regime. EUV systems require export permits. The Netherlands did not renew a license for China in 2019 before ASML exported any EUV machine. ASML also said in 2023 that EUV sales were already restricted.

ASML said in 2023 it would apply for licenses for shipments of its most advanced immersion DUV systems. Meanwhile its 2025 annual report said stronger-than-expected China demand for DUV tools offset weaker demand outside China.
