Asia chip shares rise ahead of Nvidia CEO’s CES speech

Shares of Asia-based semiconductor companies increased as investors anticipated Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s speech at the CES trade show in Las Vegas.

The address will discuss advancements in AI technology.

In Japan, chip equipment manufacturers saw gains. Tokyo Electron Ltd., Advantest Corp., Disco Corp., and Lasertec Corp. rose by over 6%.

Taiwan’s Foxconn climbed by 4.1%, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) increased by 3.1%.

Huang’s address is expected to showcase Nvidia’s new AI innovations, including the possible launch of the Blackwell chip.

The semiconductor sector is benefiting from large investments in AI infrastructure, with Microsoft committing US$80 billion to AI data centers by 2025.
