Arm to open chip design school in South Korea under new deal
Arm Holdings, the chip unit of SoftBank, plans to set up a chip design school in South Korea under a new agreement with the industry ministry.
The program aims to train about 1,400 high-level chip design specialists to support the country’s system-semiconductor and fabless sectors.
The agreement comes as SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son met President Lee Jae Myung in Seoul, where he highlighted rising demand for chips as AI advances.
South Korea has announced ambitions to become one of the top three global AI powers and has recently engaged global tech leaders, including OpenAI and Nvidia.
In October, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix signed letters of intent to supply memory chips for OpenAI’s Stargate project, which is backed by SoftBank and Oracle.
Son is also expected to meet SK Group’s chairman to discuss further cooperation.
