Argentinian fintech startup Tapi raises $27m series B
Argentine fintech startup Tapi raised US$27 million in a series B funding round led by Kaszek Ventures, with Endeavor Catalyst and Latitud also participating, to expand its operations in Mexico.
The company plans to invest in hiring, new payment services, and potential acquisitions in Mexico, where it processes about 90% of its roughly 25 million monthly transactions.
Tapi works with over 110 clients, including Nubank and MercadoPago, and partners with retailers for cash deposits and bill payments.
The company aims to capitalize on Mexico’s large population and growing financial ecosystem, which it considers underdeveloped.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Tapi’s Mexico push rests on an acquisition and 2025 profitability
- The funding is new, yet Tapi’s base in Mexico took shape earlier through its acquisition of Arcus’s assets from Mastercard 1.
- The deal widened Tapi’s physical footprint with access to more than 50,000 cash-in and cash-out locations at retailers including OXXO and Walmart 1.
- This matters in Mexico, where more than 90% of daily payments still happen in cash, so the network links digital finance with paper money 1.
- Tapi says it became profitable in 2025, and it paid for the Arcus acquisition using part of the capital raised to date plus profits from the past three years 23.
Tapi’s “picks and shovels” play for fintechs and SMEs
- Tapi avoids going head-to-head with customers like Nubank, and it instead sells behind-the-scenes infrastructure for banking and financial apps as the market shifts from consumer fintech fights to business-to-business (B2B) services 1.
- The “picks and shovels” idea bets that cash-heavy economies reward hybrid setups that give digital-first companies a physical presence without the cost of building one 1.
- Tapi is pushing the same approach beyond large fintechs to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through platforms such as tapipay 4.
- For sectors like education or insurance, Tapi says automated collections help more businesses move payments online, including those that missed the fintech boom 24.
