Ares backs $100m funding for self-driving truck firm Kodiak

Kodiak AI, a US self-driving truck company, raised US$100 million by selling shares at US$6.50 each with warrants priced as low as US$6.

Its stock fell 37% in after-hours trading from a US$9.10 close.

The financing came from existing backer Ares Management and other institutional investors as Kodiak continues to expand its autonomous trucking business across off-road sites and public highways.

Kodiak reported US$1.8 million in first-quarter revenue and a US$37.8 million operating loss, versus US$1.4 million in revenue a year earlier.

It also announced a Roehl Transport deal to run autonomous freight trips between Dallas and Houston with a human safety operator in the cab.
