Arch, Khosla lead quantum startup Oratomic’s $300m series A
Oratomic, a Pasadena-based quantum computing startup founded by Caltech physicists, has raised US$300 million in a series A round to develop a utility-scale quantum computer by the end of the decade.
The round was co-led by Arch Venture Partners, Spark Capital, and Khosla Ventures, with participation from Bezos Expeditions, Index Ventures, General Catalyst, Lowercarbon Capital, and Bain Capital.
The company came out of stealth in March 2026. It describes itself as a Caltech and Harvard spinout founded by CEO Dolev Bluvstein and Professor Manuel Endres, with Professor John Preskill as an adviser.
Oratomic uses lasers to trap individual atoms as qubits, the basic units of quantum computing.
Its technical case is backed by a March 2026 paper arguing that as few as 10,000 reconfigurable atomic qubits could be enough to run Shor’s algorithm, vs. prior estimates of millions.
Bluvstein said the startup will skip selling noisy intermediate-scale quantum machines, or NISQ machines, which are not fault-tolerant and generally lack continuous error correction.
