AppWorks closes $165m fourth fund
AppWorks has closed its fourth venture capital fund at US$165 million, raising its total funds raised to US$386 million.
The Taipei-based VC firm is known for supporting early-stage startups across Asia and has focused on AI and Web3 since 2017.
Fund IV is backed by sovereign investors from Taiwan, Malaysia, and South Korea, as well as corporate and institutional limited partners including Taiwan Mobile and Fubon Life.
AppWorks said it adjusted its fundraising target in response to market changes and global economic conditions, lowering the final fund size from an initial target of US$360 million.
The new capital will be used to back early-stage technology startups across Asia.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Fund III’s missing data clouds AppWorks’ recent record
- The piece mentions Fund II’s 1.9x distributions to paid-in capital (DPI) but omits Fund III, which closed in 2021 at $150 million 1. No TVPI (total value to paid-in), DPI or IRR means readers cannot judge post-2017 AI and Web3 bets.
- Fund IV came in at $165 million vs a $360 million goal, which may stem from a soft market or weak recent results. Without Fund III data, you cannot separate market pressure from limits tied to the track record shaping limited partner (LP) commitments.
- Publishing Fund III would confirm whether AppWorks kept top-quartile form, as Fund II hit 3.3x TVPI and 34.7% IRR by 2021 1. A slide during scaling or the AI and Web3 pivot would weigh on follow-on fund size.
AppWorks’ accelerator schedule gives regular openings for investors and tech vendors in early AI and Web3
- AppWorks runs cohorts twice a year with Demo Days (public investor presentations) in Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta 2. AW#31 saw 72% AI use 3, drawing coinvestors plus enterprise vendors and regional channel partners offering sales support.
- B2B SaaS vendors or cloud providers can time outreach around March kick-off retreats 4 plus mid-year Demo Days, when cohorts raise and form partnerships.
- AW#32 centers on Manufacturing AI, Defense Tech, and On-Chain Banking (banking services built on public blockchains) 4. The theme fits investors and strategic partners with domain depth, helped by Taiwan’s manufacturing base access 5.
