Apple wins US appeal over iCloud storage misrepresentation
A US federal appeals court has ruled against Apple customers who claimed the company provided less iCloud storage than advertised.
The decision was made on July 23, 2025 by the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
The case, filed by Lisa Bodenburg, claimed her US$2.99 monthly plan for 200 GB should have included an extra 5 GB free, totaling 205 GB.
However, she received only 200 GB in total.
Circuit Judge Milan Smith ruled that Apple delivered what it promised, 200 GB as clearly marketed, and dismissed Bodenburg’s assumption as unreasonable.
This decision affirms a May 2024 ruling by District Judge Trina Thompson, which also sided with Apple.
Attorneys for Bodenburg did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
