Apple tops global smartphone market in 2025: report

Apple held the largest share of the global smartphone market in 2025, accounting for 20% of shipments, according to Counterpoint Research.

Global smartphone shipments rose 2% year-on-year, lifted by stronger demand and economic momentum in emerging markets.

Apple’s performance was supported by strong sales of the iPhone 17 series and solid demand in emerging and mid-sized markets.

Samsung ranked second with 19% market share, while Xiaomi followed with 13%, supported by steady demand in emerging markets.

Counterpoint said manufacturers moved shipments earlier in the year to get ahead of tariffs, but this effect eased as 2025 progressed.

The firm expects the smartphone market to soften in 2026 due to chip shortages and rising component costs, as chipmakers prioritize AI data centers over smartphones.
