Apple tests Siri support for Gemini, Claude in iOS 27
Apple plans to let Siri hand off queries to third-party AI assistants in iOS 27, expanding beyond its current ChatGPT option.
Apple is testing an Extensions system that lets users choose which installed chatbot apps work inside Siri on iOS 27.
If apps such as Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude support it, users could route each request to a chosen service, and Apple could take its App Store cut on paid subscriptions.
Apple is expected to preview iOS 27 at WWDC, and the move is separate from efforts to rebuild Siri using Gemini models.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Siri’s new AI framework is taking shape
- A PDF guide for macOS Tahoe mentions an “Extensions” menu inside Apple Intelligence & Siri settings, even as iOS 27 remains a future target. It also walks through setting up ChatGPT 1.
- The “Extensions” area sits within “Apple Intelligence & Siri” settings. It includes a setup flow for third-party chatbots such as ChatGPT 1.
- This lines up with work on an “Extensions” framework that lets AI assistants from installed apps run inside Siri. Siri could pass requests to those app-provided assistants 2.
- That design would make Siri more configurable and could support rival AI services through an Extensions menu. PhoneArena, a consumer tech news site, called the approach “un-Apple” 3.
An Extensions-enabled Siri could become a distribution and monetization channel
- Some commentary suggests paid AI subscriptions could run through the App Store using Siri Extensions. Apple could then take a commission 4.
- Apple is reportedly building an Extensions framework that lets multiple AI apps from the App Store plug into Siri. This could expand Siri’s skills without Apple building every AI model itself 5.
- For AI developers, Siri integration could offer a way to reach iOS users. That reach may encourage more teams to support the platform 6.
- Apple could also treat Siri as the gatekeeper for on-device AI assistants by controlling how third-party tools connect and appear in Siri-related settings 5.
