Luxshare, a Shenzhen-listed device assembler and Apple supplier, had its shares rise about 10% on September 22 after reports it reached a deal with OpenAI to produce a consumer AI device.

The Information reported that Luxshare is developing a prototype using ChatGPT large language models, citing sources familiar with the matter.

One source said OpenAI has discussed a device resembling a smart speaker without a display, with a possible launch in late 2026 or early 2027.

Luxshare’s share surge brings its year-to-date gain to around 50%, within the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s daily trading limits.

The company is also reportedly considering a secondary listing in Hong Kong this year.

OpenAI has signaled interest in launching dedicated AI hardware, hiring staff from Apple and appointing former Apple executive Tang Tan to lead its hardware division.
