Apple set for September event with iPhone 17, new AirPods Pro

Apple is expected to hold its annual hardware event on September 9, 2025, where it may unveil the iPhone 17 lineup, new Apple Watch models, and updated AirPods.

The iPhone 17 may offer a larger display, faster refresh rate, a 24-megapixel front camera, and new color options.

The iPhone 17 Pro could see a redesign with a rectangular camera bar and a switch to an aluminum frame, while the Pro Max might have a thicker body, likely for a larger battery.

Pricing may start at US$800 for the iPhone 17, US$1,050 for the Pro, and US$1,250 for the Pro Max, with fewer storage choices compared to previous models.

A new ultra-thin iPhone Air, possibly replacing the Plus model, is rumored to have a 6.6-inch screen, single rear camera, and a US$950 price tag.

Apple Watch Ultra 3, series 11, and AirPods Pro 3 may debut with upgrades like faster charging, blood pressure monitoring, touch controls, and improved noise cancellation.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Apple’s iterative refinement strategy continues driving massive returns

The iPhone 17 rumors follow Apple’s proven playbook of incremental improvements rather than revolutionary changes, a strategy that has generated extraordinary returns.

The original iPhone project cost $150 million to develop but generated over $54 billion in revenue by 2017 alone1. Since launch, Apple has sold over 1.4 billion iPhones through this iterative approach2.

The rumored changes, like moving from 60Hz to 120Hz displays and upgrading front cameras to 24-megapixel, reflect the steady progression that has also driven the growth of the App Store from 500 apps in 2008 to 2.1 million today, generating over $120 billion for developers32.

This measured evolution allows Apple to extract maximum value from each innovation cycle while maintaining premium pricing. Even as the smartphone market showed only 1% growth in Q2 2025, Apple maintained its 15.7% market share4.

2️⃣ Health monitoring becomes Apple’s next major platform expansion

The Apple Watch blood pressure monitoring rumors signal Apple’s strategic push into healthcare, following a similar approach to its previous product expansions.

Blood pressure issues affect nearly 13% of global deaths, making this a significant addressable market5. The planned feature will detect hypertension trends rather than provide exact measurements, similar to how Apple’s existing heart monitoring works6.
