Apple price-hike plan hits Asian tech stocks

Asian tech stocks fell after Apple said it planned to raise product prices because memory chip costs had surged, raising concern that pricier devices could curb electronics demand and cool the AI-driven chip rally.

South Korean memory chipmakers SK hynix and Samsung Electronics each fell more than 8%, while Kioxia Holdings dropped as much as 12%.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Infotech gauge slid 6.4%, and Nasdaq 100 futures fell 1.5%.

Apple fell 6.1%, while Taiwan-based chip designer MediaTek and electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry, also known as Foxconn, lost as much as 10% and 3.7%.

Chief executive Tim Cook said memory suppliers were pushing through steep increases, and RAM prices have more than doubled since October 2025.

The sell-off hit a sector lifted by AI servers, which require 6x more dynamic random-access memory, or DRAM, than standard servers.

Earlier weak smartphone and personal computer demand had weighed on consumer memory chips.
