Apple is expanding its manufacturing in Vietnam, partnering with Chinese EV maker BYD to assemble new smart home devices, according to sources familiar with the matter.

BYD will handle final assembly, testing, and packaging for Apple’s upcoming home hub and a tabletop robot, both set for production in Vietnam.

Apple already produces some iPads, AirPods, Apple Watches, Macs, and older HomePods in the country.

This shift highlights Apple’s move to diversify its supply chain away from China amid rising geopolitical tensions and tariff risks.

The new home hub, featuring a 7-inch display and FaceTime camera, is expected to launch in spring 2026 after delays tied to software development.

A tabletop robot with a motorized display is planned for release in 2027, while an indoor security camera could launch by the end of next year.

Both devices will use LCD panels from Tianma Microelectronics, and Apple is targeting a price around US$350 for the home hub.
