Apple may raise iPhone 18 Pro prices as chip costs rise

Apple may raise prices in the US for its iPhone 18 Pro lineup this year as memory supply tightens and chip costs rise, according to Counterpoint Research and industry sources.

Counterpoint said the bill of materials for an iPhone 18 Pro Max could be about US$300 higher than its predecessor’s, driven mainly by memory, a 2-nanometer chip, and newer packaging.

Industry sources said Apple could raise the starting prices of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max by about US$200 each. Last year in the US, the iPhone 17 Pro started at US$1,099 and the Pro Max at US$1,199.

That would stand out because iPhone list prices have largely kept pace with inflation since 2016.

IDC said a memory shortage could persist into 2027 as AI demand diverts DRAM and NAND flash supply from smartphones. It is also said smartphone prices could rise 3% to 5% in a moderate 2026 shortage, potentially lengthening replacement cycles.
