Apple to name John Ternus CEO as AI becomes top priority

Apple will appoint John Ternus as CEO on September 1, with Tim Cook becoming executive chairman, as the company bets on new devices and AI while facing slower growth in parts of its business.

Ternus, Apple’s hardware engineering chief and one of Cook’s senior deputies, will take charge as Apple prepares a fall product lineup that is expected to include a foldable iPhone and a smart display.

He will also continue overseeing work on smart glasses and new Siri AI features.

Apple’s Siri overhaul had been delayed again before the company introduced Siri AI in June as part of its broader AI effort.

Cook is expected to keep managing Apple’s relationships with President Donald Trump and the Chinese government, while Ternus will rely on COO Sabih Khan, CFO Kevan Parekh, and services chief Eddy Cue.
