Apple and Google have sent new cyber threat notifications to users in at least 80 countries, warning them of potential spyware targeting.

Apple said it issued warnings on December 2 but did not provide details on the number of users or suspected attackers, noting it has notified users in over 150 countries to date.

Google said on December 3 that it warned all known users targeted by Intellexa spyware across several hundred accounts in countries including Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Angola, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, and Tajikistan.

Past notifications from both companies have led to government investigations, and researchers say these alerts can help trigger further probes into spyware abuses.
