Apple falls behind Huawei, Vivo in China smartphone market

Apple has fallen to third place in China’s smartphone market in 2024, overtaken by Vivo and Huawei.

The company’s shipments dropped 17% year-on-year, totaling 42.9 million units and accounting for 15% of the market share.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, Apple shipped 13.1 million units, a 25% decline compared to the same period in 2022.

Huawei has made significant advancements in the market, driven by new domestically produced chips introduced in 2023.

Its shipments increased 24% year-on-year in the fourth quarter, totaling 46 million units for the entire year, which marks a 37% rise compared to 2023.

China’s smartphone market grew 5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, totaling 77.4 million units, underscoring fierce competition among brands in Apple’s second-largest market.
