Nick Amman, Apple’s vice-president of global affairs, left Jakarta on Wednesday without reaching an agreement to end Indonesia’s sales ban on the iPhone 16.

This ban has been in effect since October due to Apple’s failure to comply with a local manufacturing requirement for its devices.

Although Amman has departed Indonesia, some Apple representatives remain in Jakarta to further the discussions.

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto had directed ministers last month to consider Apple’s US$1 billion investment proposal.

However, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita reaffirmed the need for Apple to manufacture parts of the iPhone locally.
