Apple and the US Department of Justice are reportedly in early talks to settle a 2024 antitrust lawsuit over iPhone policies that regulators said limited competition.

No agreement is guaranteed, and no trial date has been set.

The Department of Justice, along with 19 states and the District of Columbia, alleges Apple blocked or restricted super apps, outside messaging services, cloud-streaming apps, rival digital wallets, and smartwatch competition.

In June 2025, a judge denied Apple’s bid to dismiss the case.

Apple reportedly made multiple settlement offers this year. The Trump administration has also sought to resolve some antitrust cases filed under the previous administration.

Apple has already changed parts of its iPhone ecosystem by opening messaging to Rich Communication Services (RCS), allowing cloud-streaming apps, offering mini apps to developers, and giving third-party apps access to the iPhone’s payment chip.
