Apple will open a facility in Batam, Indonesia, by early 2025 to manufacture its AirTag tracking devices, as announced by Indonesian Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani.

The factory is anticipated to produce 65% of the global demand for AirTags.

This factory is part of a US$1 billion investment that Apple has pledged to Indonesia, with prospects for further expansion as additional suppliers may follow.

Minister Roeslani described this initiative as the first phase of Apple’s broader investment strategy in the region.

Apple has been negotiating with the Indonesian government after a sales ban on the iPhone 16 was imposed last year due to non-compliance with local content requirements.
